The rue Saint-Denis axis was adorned with a large number of religious establishments, including the Eglise Saint-Sauveur, which have since been destroyed. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Bourse arrondissement attracted the world of finance, and the boulevards became a “trendy” area. This gave rise to a new type of urban planning: covered passages. The arrondissement is home to more than half of Parisian’s passages, most of which are located along the Grand Boulevards.
